Building Regional Resilience through Strengthened Meteorological, Hydrological and Climate Services in the IOC Member Countries
Providing timely, reliable and accurate climate services to help reduce economic losses, impacts on livelihood and increase resilience to climate change
Building Regional Resilience through Strengthened Meteorological, Hydrological and Climate Services
The Seychelles Meteorological Authority has committed to regional resilience and sustainable development through the "Building Regional Resilience through Strengthened Meteorological, Hydrological and Climate Services in the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) countries" project. This innovative initiative, encompassing Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, and Seychelles, aims to enhance the resilience of vulnerable communities by developing robust national hydro-meteorological services, fostering regional cooperation, and sharing climate knowledge. The project's focus on improving and scaling up climate service delivery and early warning systems is designed to significantly reduce the climate and socio-economic vulnerabilities faced by IOC countries.
Amidst the increasing threats of tropical cyclones, storm surges, floods, and droughts, the project serves as a beacon of hope for the IOC countries, recognized for their high vulnerability to climate variability and related disasters. With an estimated 288 million beneficiaries, the project, supported by a substantial budget of USD 74 million, including a generous contribution from the Green Climate Fund, will embark on a transformative journey over the next four years (2019-2022). It represents a pivotal step towards safeguarding the region's future, ensuring that communities not only survive but thrive in the face of climate challenges. Through this initiative, the Seychelles Meteorological Authority reaffirms its dedication to promoting sustainable development and climate resilience across the Indian Ocean region.
