The Seychelles Meteorological Authority (SMA), together with its Chinese partners, has successfully deployed a meteo-oceanographic buoy a 4º34'S and 55º21'E, marking an important milestone in strengthening ocean, weather, and climate monitoring in Seychelles waters.

The operation began with the successful boarding of the deployment team and equipment from the Port of Victoria, after which the vessel proceeded towards the designated deployment site. Upon arrival, the buoy was safely positioned and deployed, completing a key phase of this joint technical mission.

The deployment reflects the strong spirit of cooperation between Seychelles and China and highlights a practical scientific partnership focused on improving marine observation, data collection, and environmental monitoring. The buoy was contributed by SMA’s Chinese partners as part of this collaboration, further demonstrating the goodwill and shared commitment that continue to support cooperation between the two institutions.

The newly deployed buoy is expected to support the collection of valuable weather, climate, and ocean data. This information will contribute to improved forecasting, marine and climate research, and a better understanding of changing environmental conditions. It will also support informed decision-making in areas linked to climate resilience, disaster risk reduction, marine safety, and ocean management.

SMA extends its appreciation to its Chinese partners, the vessel crew, divers, technical teams, and all personnel involved in the successful completion of the deployment.

With the buoy now deployed, SMA reaffirms its commitment to advancing national observation systems and strengthening services that benefit environmental monitoring, marine safety, and national development.
